ME 324 Advanced Control Systems

Introduction to modern control systems with emphasis on the role of control in overall system analysis and design. Input-output directions in multivariable systems: eigenvalues and singular value decomposition. System norms and introduction to MIMO robustness. Controller design for multivariable plants: linear quadratic regulator, linear quadratic Gaussian optimal control, Hinfinity and H-2 control, sampled-data, model predictive control. Convex design methods: Youla parameterization, linear matrix inequalities; adaptive control, neural networks, fuzzy logic systems; introduction to neuro-fuzzy systems and soft computing. Multivariable control design examples drawn from throughout engineering and science in the field of aerospace, automotive, chemical- and energy-efficient buildings.
