Organization profile

The KAUST Chemical Science Program (ChemS) was established in 2010 to provide a modern research-oriented education in Chemistry. Making use of the outstanding facilities at KAUST, the program distinguishes itself by a strong emphasis on research with a clear focus on current challenges related to catalysis and materials.

The interdisciplinary degree program is one of five programs offered by the Physical Sciences and Engineering (PSE) division. It combines the expertise of three research centers: the KAUST Catalysis Center (KCC), the Advanced Membranes and Porous Materials Research Center (AMPM) and the KAUST Solar Center (KSC). Additional modules are offered in collaborations with PSE and other programs at KAUST (Materials Science and Engineering and the Chemical and Biological Engineering).

To guarantee the high KAUST standard of education, all KAUST ChemS tracks require submission of a research thesis for awarding a degree. Hence, the students will work in close contact with faculty from the first day on and are required to choose a thesis supervisor. Targeting excellent graduate students world-wide, the KAUST ChemS program offers three tracks:

  • M.S. track
  • M.S. to Ph.D. track
  • B.S. to Ph.D. track
