Abstract

For low permeability reservoirs with threshold pressure gradient, the dynamic of water coning is different from that in the conventional gas reservoir. If conventional prediction methods are applied to calculate the water coning time, errors occur and cannot reflect the real situation of the water coning. This paper considers the impact of threshold pressure gradient, modifies the process of gas flow and water coning and through mathematical deduction, this paper gets water breakthrough time prediction formula in low-perm gas reservoir with bottom water. Through calculation in cases, this paper preliminarily analyzes the effect of threshold pressure gradient on water breakthrough time. With an increase of threshold pressure gradient, the water breakthrough time decreases, and the gas well see water earlier. Copyright 2011, Society of Petroleum Engineers.
