Abstract

Recent work has established the diversity-multiplexing tradeoff at high SNR in Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) communication systems having N t and N r transmit and receive antennas respectively. We introduce a new adaptive encoding (AE) scheme which can switch efficiently between suboptimal encoding schemes, given a very limited non-systematic feedback information to the transmitter side to achieve the optimal tradeoff. When a 2 × 2 MIMO system is considered, the adaptive encoding scheme is presented and shown to achieve the optimal diversity-multiplexing tradeoff. The adaptive-encoding scheme is comprised of two suboptimal encoding achieving respectively the high rate and the low rate optimal segments.
