Abstract
An international collaboration led by Nripan Mathews and Tze Chien Sum reported amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) from thin films of organic inorganic mixed-halide perovskites, which can be deposited by simple spin-coating from solution. It is highlighted that facile tuning of the emission wavelength across the visible wavelength range can be achieved by varying the composition of the perovskite, specifically the ratio of halides that comprise the perovskite structure. The researchers also demonstrate superior photostability of their perovskite thin films under pulsed laser excitation, even under ambient conditions. Interestingly, the output intensity remained virtually constant even after 26 hours of continuous optical pumping of the perovskite film, which is significantly better than the stability observed for organic materials and colloidal quantum dots.
