Abstract
The phenomena of local diffusion and global propagation in a one-dimensional Cellular Neural Network (CNN) are studied. The distinction between these two ways of information processing is discussed focusing on their practical consequences on stability, on the influence of boundary conditions, on the dependence of the number of stable equilibria with the number of cells, on the existence of limit cycles, and on the lengths of transients.
