Abstract
A silica-alumina-supported ziconium monohydride catalyzes the polymerization of ethylene and propylene and also, under an atmosphere of H2, the hydrogenolytic degradation of the resulting polymeric chain. This catalyst also degrades high molecular weight commercial polyethylene and polypropylenes at 150°-190°C and under 1 atm of H2 to a distribution of lower alkanes.
