Abstract
A report on chemical synthesis of dispersed SmCo5 nanoparticles was presented. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), electron diffraction, and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), indicated the size of the nanoparticles as 6-8 nm in diameter with a SmCo5 composition. It was found that the magnetization measurements of the nanoparticles revealed superparamagnetism, which was blocked for temperatures below ∼110 k. It was suggested that high magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants (Ku) to be ∼2.1×106 erg/cm3 for the as-prepared particles.
