Abstract
Purposes of this work are (1) to show a remarkable fact of continuous change from FCC (Folded Chain Crystals) to ECC (Extended Chain Crystals) with increase of crystallization temperature and (2) to present a new kinetic theory of lamellar thickening to explain (1) and origin of FCC and ECC. The authors will use materials which crystallize from the melt into the hexagonal phase, as they should be suitable for this purpose. PCTFE (Polychlorotrifluoroethylene) and PTBD (Polybutadiene) showed continuous change from FCC to ECC with increase of crystallization temperature when they crystallized at atmospheric pressure from the melt into pseudohexagonal and hexagonal phase, which was explained by a new kinetic theory of lamellar thickening where chain sliding diffusion within lamellae takes essential role. The theory also explained the origin of FCC and ECC.
