Abstract
The dilute solution characteristics of regular three- and twelve-arm and asymmetric three-arm polystyrene stars have been studied under θ conditions (cyclohexane) and in a good solvent (toluene). The parameters evaluatedinclude the intrinsic viscosities and for the regular stars the radii of gyration and the viscometric based radii. Thetwelvearm stars show the influence of high segment densities near the star core under θ conditions; i.e., gθdecreases as arm molecular weight increases and approaches the random-walk prediction only at high-arm molecular weight. Additional parameters describing the regular and asymmetric star-shaped polymers are presented anddiscussed.
