Abstract
Effect of three perforated pipes with different orifice diameter (A:φ4 mm, B:φ2 mm, C:φ1 mm) on the performance of a pilot-scale submerged membrane bioreactor(SMBR) was investigated. Oxygenation test with tap water showed that the overall oxygen transfer performance of the SMBR with three perforated pipes was nearly the same. Tracer pulse test indicated that the SMBR with three perforated pipes was close to continuous stirred tank reactor. Hydrodynamic test showed that superficial velocity in the riser rose firstly and then reached a steady value about 0.43m/s with aeration intensity in the riser; when aeration intensity was low [< 120m3/(m2 · h)], superficial velocity was higher under perforated pipe A; but when aeration intensity was high [>120m3/(m2 · h)], the difference of superficial velocity among three perforated pipes became small. Filtration test under constant flux indicated that transmembrane pressure rising velocity with perforated pipe A (0.0382 kPa/h) was lower than with perforated pipe C (0.05 kPa/h). Perforated pipe A with bigger orifice diameter was superior to perforated pipe B and C with smaller orifice diameter in this pilot-scale SMBR.
