title = "Effects of fuel properties on autoignition in HCCI engines",
abstract = "Octane number and cetane number are a metric for fuel performance in gasoline and Diesel engines, respectively; however these numbers do not accurately predict fuel performance in homogenous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engines. To develop a metric for predicting fuel performance in HCCI engines, this paper investigates correlations between ignition of fuels in an HCCI engine and engine parameters including compression ratio and intake temperature. A relationship between fuel chemistry and ignition in HCCI engines is also investigated. Results show that previous methods for predicting ignition do not correlate well with experimental data. Results also show that ignition is highly sensitive to fuel chemistry and does not correlate with octane number.",
