Abstract
We have determined the surface tensions (γs) two liquid crystalline polyesters (VectraTM A-950 and XydarTM) and one polyesteramide (VectraTM B-950) using contact angle techniques at room temperature. These LCPs were dissolved in mixtures of 3,5-bis-trifluoromethyl phenol and spin-coated upon glass slides to form thin films. The contact angle measurements were carried out employing a Rame-Hart contact angle goniometer. The average surface tensions of VectraTM A-950, VectraTM B-950 and XydarTM are 41.04, 41.94 and 42.27 mJ/cm2, respectively. In addition, all these three LCPs should be classed as monopolar Lewis bases because their Lewis acid components, γ+, are neglectable. The intensity of Lewis base for these LCPs are as follows: XydarTM>VectraTM B-950>VectraTM A-950.
