Abstract

Using the inelastic x-ray scattering, high frequency acoustic excitations in ordered diblock copolymer was studied. To enhance the block incompatibility, the lamellar ordered styrene-b-(ethylene-alt-propylene) (SEP) diblock (d=20 nm) was obtained. The low molecular weight diblock copolymers styrene-isoprene (SI) were synthesized by sequential addition of styrene and isoprene to s-BuLi using well established high vacuum procedures. It was observed that at GHz frequencies, inelastic light scattering revealed very small dispersion in the sound phase velocity but a short phonon lifetime.
