Abstract

This chapter is an overview of the science and technology of high temperature polymer blends, an area which has become a major topic of scientific investigation in the last two decades. The morphology and, hence, the property spectrum of polymer blends is controlled by the miscibility and the phase behavior of the mixture. Approaches to address the interactions between the morphology and the miscibility in these blends are discussed. The chapter specifically reviews the examples of PBI blends, LCP blends, semi-interpenetrating networks and molecular composites. This review is not meant to be totally comprehensive, but is intended to give the reader an overview of the important technological trends in this emerging field.
