Abstract
(Chemical Equation Presented) Under supercritical conditions and at moderate temperatures, propane is transformed into higher-branched homologues in the presence of a zirconium-dihydride catalyst supported on an oxide material such as silica. Products are formed by a reaction similar to Ziegler-Natta olefin polymerization. Olefinic units generated on one alkyl branch are inserted into the other branch to make a longer alkyl chain (see scheme).
