title = "Image Enhancement: Application to Geotomography",
abstract = "Image enhancement complements geotomographic reconstruction in the rendering of better images. In this paper, available image enhancement techniques are reviewed. Emphasis is given to two methods: interactive zoning and selective smoothing. The first technique maximizes the use of test-related information and is based on the frequency distribution of slowness to aid the identification and is based on the frequency distribution of slowness to aid the identification of ranges that represent materials with similar properties. Selective smoothing is a modified application of filters that smooths images while preserving contrast. Results from case studies with real and simulated data are presented, and guidelines for the application of each technique are discussed.",
