Abstract
Coke deposited during the hydrocracking of LCO on Pt-Pd catalysts and the effect of catalyst properties on the nature of coke and its composition were studied. The LCO comprised 70 wt % aromatics; the most abundant family was diaromatics (substituted naphthalene and biphenyl) and some triaromatics and monoaromatics. The most abundant among the monoaromatics were 1,1-dimethyl-2-propenyl benzene and 1-methyl-3-(1-methyl-2-propenyl) benzene, and among the triaromatics were substituted anthracenes and phenantrenes. The coke deposited on bifunctional catalysts had a very complex composition consisting of PAH with heteroatoms (sulfur and nitrogen). The comparison between soluble coke composition with that of the LCO showed a higher molecular weight and condensation level of the compounds in this coke fraction, which correspond mainly to the coke deposited on the external surface of the catalyst particles and resulted from a significant condensation of the LCO compounds catalyzed by the acid sites of the HY zeolite located outside the catalyst particles.
