Abstract

In this paper we report on the temperature dependence of the time decay of the magnetization in CrO2 DCC magnetic tapes. We have followed the change in the magnetization between 100 and 4000 s after applying an inverse field from the saturation for various temperatures from 1.8 to 300 K. As the temperature is reduced below several degree kelvin, we have observed a non-thermal relaxation compatible with the occurence of the quantum magnetic relaxation. The order of magnitude of the crossover temperature below which the thermal relaxation changes to quantum relaxation is in agreement with theoretical expectation.
