Abstract

Magnetic nanowires possess unique exploitable features in the nanoscale compared to other nanostructures that give them great potential in the biomedical field. Here, we first provide a brief review of the magnetic properties of nanowires, followed by their various fabrication methods and a short overview of their biocompatibility and toxicological assessment. We then proceed to review the existing literature of biomedical applications that utilize magnetic nanowires, with an emphasis on those where a magnetic field is used in parallel in order to obtain a desired theranostic effect.
