Abstract
We present a numerical analysis of the two-dimensional response of a very flexible structure moving in a inviscid fluid. For moderate angles of attack, the flow separates from the obstacle at the trailing edge which is the origin of the wake. We propose an interaction model based on a mixed boundary element method / particle method for the representation of the flow and a finite displacement model for the elastic deformation of the structure. Both fluid and elastic problems are then solved on their actual domains (deformed) and variational considerations on the system energies yield a non linear equation for the dynamics of the interaction. This equation exhibits three parameters that characterised the system. Numerical results are presented for unsteady perturbations and random boundary conditions. The influence of the parameters is also briefly investigated.
