Abstract

Polarized near-normal-incidence reflectance, transmittance and ellipsometry measurements were performed to determine the complex refractive index of stretch-oriented poly(p-phenylene-vinylene) (PPV) films. A double grating Varian spectrometer model was used to measure optical reflectance and transmittance spectra. Correlated quantum-chemical calculations were also performed to compute optical constants of an 11-ring PPV oligomer. The analysis showed good agreement between experimental and computed values.
