Abstract

A heterogeneously complex carbonate reservoir has been characterized texturally and petrophysically at the plug- and core-scale. This rock typing has been used as input to a series of dynamic "mini-models" aimed at correctly deriving static and dynamic rock properties for input into a full field model. Simulation of these mini-models clearly demonstrates the importance of small-scale heterogeneities on hydrocarbon displacement. These small-scale heterogeneities are commonly omitted from standard reservoir modeling workflows.
