Abstract

Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) is the state-of-the-art separation process by which to purify hydrogen in chemical industries. It is employed in a wide range of flows with units able to process feeds the range 30-400000Nm3h-1. This chapter introduces and explains the principles of operation of the PSA process for H 2 purification and recovery. It also provides details of PSA design with new trends in process improvements. New R&D developments in materials science and process engineering during recent years are also provided to show some of the alternatives that the PSA process has to be further developed.
