Reactions of H-atoms with C3H4-isomers

Propargyl radicals (C3H3) are important precursors for the formation of aromatics in combustion and pyrolysis processes. No direct experimental studies on the reaction of H atoms with propyne under high-temperature conditions have been reported. Thus, experiments were performed behind shock waves at 1200-1400 K and 1.3-4 bar of argon. Total rate coefficients for the H + propyne reaction were determined as a function of temperature. They were, within the experimental uncertainties, pressure-independent and agreed with the results of a TST calculation that accounts only the reaction route leading to C2H2 and CH3. This might indicate that this reaction channel is dominant under the experimental conditions. The influence of the propyne-allene isomerization was negligible.
