Abstract
Titanium alloy specimens at room temperature and in air were joined by using free-standing nanostructured Al/Ni multilayer foils. As-deposited and reacted foils were examined by x-ray diffraction to determine phase formation. The maximum temperature was directly dependent on the foil's heat of reaction. The results show that the temperatures reached by the foils during reaction are critical in determining the success of joining when using higher melting temperature braze layers.
