Abstract
Recent results show that a special care has to be taken into account when using quadrilateral finite elements. We apply these results to a mixed finite element scheme used for the approximation of an eigenvalue problem arising in the framework of fluidstructure interaction. Numerical results confirm that the optimal rate of convergence can be achieved on general quadrilateral meshes only if the discontinuous piecewise linear elements approximating the pressures are handled in the appropriate way. 1.
