Renewable-based integrated systems play a central role in decarbonizing the chemical and power industry. However, the design of these systems remains a challenge because of the uncertainty related to renewable resources availability. In this chapter, we start by reviewing three examples of integrated systems to produce chemical compounds, energy, and utilities. Then, two important methodologies for the design and optimization of renewable-based integrated systems are discussed: two-stage stochastic programming and clustering. Moreover, three illustrative examples show the applicability of the concepts.
