Solvent reorientation in block copolymer solutions

Abstract

The effect of added polymer on the relaxational characteristics of the chlorinated biphenyl solvent also known as Aroclor (A1248) has been studied by photon correlation spectroscopy in the depolarized mode and by dielectric spectroscopy. Modifications of the solvent reorientation dynamics in solutions containing polyisoprene (PI), polystyrene (PS), 1,2-polybutadiene (1,2-PB) and 1,4-polybutadiene (1,4-PB) have been established previously. The experiments have been extended to solutions of Aroclor with poly(styrene-b-1,4-isoprene) block copolymers. The measurements of the reorientational dynamics of Aroclor show an intermediate behavior between that observed in PS/Aroclor and PI/Aroclor systems.
