Abstract

This paper presents a study of the differential susceptibility of soft magnetic magnetostrictive ribbons as a function of applied stress using an original experimental approach that accommodates both tensile and compressive stresses. While tensile stress is applied directly to the sample ribbon, compressive stress is applied to a sandwich structure which contains the sample ribbon and prevents buckling. The results of three different amorphous materials are compared. Additionally, the influence of annealing on the stress sensitivity is investigated for one of the samples.
