Abstract

The preparation of bimetallic M-Sn catalysts (M=Rh, Ru and Ni) by reaction of Sn(n-C4H9)4 with M/SiO2 is described. M can be in its oxidized or reduced form. Depending on the oxidation state of the group VIII metal and the amount of tin introduced, various chemical reactions occur. The characterization as well as the chemisorption properties of the monometallic and bimetallic particles are described. Drastic changes in size and chemisorption properties are ascribed to the formation of alloys.
