Abstract

Model graft copolymers possessing regularly-spaced trifunctional or tetrafunctional branch points were synthesized using the chlorosilane linking method. Although technically demanding, the method has an advantage over traditional routes to graft copolymers in that all comprising linear building blocks are easily sampled for characterization testimony. The result is a graft copolymer whose architectural dispersity is both extremely narrow and well known. Fractionation provides better weight defined portions; the level of heterogeneity in the fractions is limited by the care taken in conducting the fractionation. Architectural dispersity remains excellent regardless of the fractionation level as long as unreacted building blocks are at least removed.
