Abstract
We report on the growth of La0.8Ce0.2MnO3 thin films on (0 0 1) LaAlO3 substrates by pulsed laser deposition. CeO2 as an impurity is present in both the bulk and film samples. The electrical transport and magnetic properties of the films are similar to that of the divalent cation-doped or La deficient LaMnO3, which show colossal magnetoresistance. Thermopower measurements indicate that the carriers are holes. The results are explained in terms of a La site deficiency due to the existence of CeO2.
