Abstract

Highly resolved measurements of scalar dissipation rates in turbulent piloted methane/air flames with compositionally inhomogeneous inlets were presented. There were many regions and flame conditions where the scalar dissipation results were similar for the fine and coarse data sets that includes downstream locations of cases with homogeneous inlets and high-temperature regions in the near field of flames with in- homogeneous inlets. At upstream locations for jets with homogeneous inlets as well as for the high-temperature regions of flames with inhomogeneous inlets both fine and coarse measurements of scalar dissipation rates yielded similar results giving confidence that measurements resolve the local dissipation scales. Downstream locations in homogeneous mixtures showed similar results for both coarse and fine measurements across all mixtures.
