Abstract

The field of two-dimensional materials is attracting growing attention because of their great potential in next-generation electronics, optoelectronics, and even electrocatlysis. To date, research on the synthesis of two-dimensional materials has mostly focused on chemical vapor deposition to construct a large-scale film over the substrate. However, chemical vapor deposition tends to produce the most stable phase of 2D materials due to the high process temperature. We develop different approaches to modify the 2D materials on different scales from atomic scale to interlayer scale and nanoscale. Using these approaches, we aim to create a metastable Janus structure, boost the performance of 2D materials, and create additional catalytic activity on different 2D materials.
